The Fourth Meeting of the Asian Society for the History of Medicine

Secretariat’s Report:

1. Vote of thanks to Prof. Liao Yuqun and his colleagues for hosting the 2008 conference.
2. Taniguchi Medal Award presented for funds contributed by Prof. Sakai.
3. Administrative support of the Secretariat was provided by the Institute of History and Philology, Academia Sinica, Taiwan.
4. Finance and Members:

B. Discussion:

1. Proposals for 2010 Conference

2. Professor Jender Lee proposed that the non-contributing membership be abolished and that registration fees for the bi-annual meeting of the Society should be established. Those who pay the registration fees to the hosting institute will have a two-year membership. Those who pay 50 US$ to the Society will enjoy permanent membership. The permanent membership fee should be used for the routine services of the Secretariat, such as the maintenance of the website. Medical historians who want to be listed in the directory can simply contact the secretariat.

3. Professor Jender Lee tendered her resignation from the post of the Secretary and nominated Professor Shang-Jen Li as the candidate for the vacated post.

C. Motions and Resolutions:

1. The Society has reconfirmed its acceptance of Professor Jong-Chan Lee’s proposal, which was passed unanimously in the third meeting.
2. Professor Jender Lee’s proposal on the membership status was passed unanimously.
3. Professor Jender Lee’s resignation was accepted with reluctance by the President. A vote of thanks was made for her eight years of service. The nomination of Professor Shang-Jen Li was accepted unanimously.
