我的研究興趣主要是中國的佛教史。過去的研究原先以僧侶的傳記資料為主。The Eminent Monk: Buddhist Ideals in Medieval Chinese Hagiography利用《高僧傳》、《續高僧傳》及《宋高僧傳》等資料來觀察中古時期僧人的內心世界以及僧人在當時社會上的形象。我最近完成的書稿The Impact of Buddhism on Chinese Material Culture討論佛教對中國物質文化的影響,包括佛教對中國的建築、衣著、家具以及飲食的貢獻。正在進行的研究以中國佛教的史學觀為主。
