In order to enhance academic exchange and cooperation with institutions and individuals conducting research on related fields of study at home and abroad, the Institute of History and Philology of the Academia Sinica accepts applications to visit the Institute from university professors, graduate students, and members of research institutions. Applications procedures are as follows:
- Application Dates: Applications are accepted three times annually. Applications must be submitted before the end of January, May, or September. Applications will then be evaluated by the Institute’s Academic Evaluation Committee in February, June, and October.
- The field of research of the applicant should be related to research conducted within this Institute, and a member of the Institute should agree to sponsor the application.
- There are two kinds of visiting scholars: applicants with a doctoral degree, or the equivalent rank of an Assistant Professor, are considered visiting scholars; other applicants will be considered junior visiting scholars.
- Duration of Visit: The maximum period of each visit is one year, and may only be extended once for a maximum of one year. Extensions are granted at the discretion of the Director of the Institute. If you wish to extend the duration of your stay, please write a letter to the Director of the Institute in order to request approval.
- Domestic scholars who are employed full-time by other institutions shall visit the Institute of History and Philology during a leave of absence or summer vacation.
- The Institute offers various types of services and assistance to visiting scholars, but in principal does not contribute funding.
- A visitor staying for over three months will be offered office space for research. As office space is limited, visitors may be asked to share an office with others.
